Frank E. Theimer, 84, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday evening, November 24, 2015 at his home.
Steven Robert Leithead passed away at his home in Jeremy Ranch, Summit County, Utah, on November 14, 2015. He was born on June 1, 1955, in Greybull, Montana, the son of Robert Darwin Leithead and Mary-Alice Riddle. Steven was raised in West Yellowstone, Montana, where he became an avid and enthusiastic snowmobiler. In 1975, he met his future wife, Heidi, while both were living and working in West Yellowstone. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1978 and are the parents of a beautiful daughter, Lindsay Paige.
On October 31, 2015, the last chapter closed on the life of Eleanor Hamilton Povah at the age of 94. Ellie was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on June 2, 1921 to Charles A Hamilton and May Emma Spence – an only child; she would lead an amazing and adventurous life. She was six weeks old when her mother returned to Yellowstone Park and there she would spend the rest of her summers. In 1915, her father purchased the lower store at Old Faithful and begin a concession business that would continue for the next 88 years and three generations.
Michael Paul Hockel, a youthful 70, died October 5, 2015 near his home in Bozeman, Montana when his car was hit by a train and he sustained insurmountable internal injuries.
James M. Kotyuk, 65, of St. Joseph, passed away, Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth in Grand Rapids.
Lawrence Walker was born in McIntosh, South Dakota, and was raised in Selfridge, North Dakota. Lawrence grew up in a large family and was one of fifteen siblings. As a young man, Lawrence was a Golden Glove Boxer and Golden Glove Champion for five years in the upper North West of the United States. He served in the Army for over two years and loved the country in which he lived. He married the love of his life, Darlene, and they were happily married for 66 years. Together they had three children; Connie, Carrie, and Ronald. In the early 60’s, Lawrence and his family moved to Montana where they still remain. After moving to Montana, Lawrence sported the ever-popular handle bar mustache. Lawrence worked for Montana Power as a lineman until he retired, and then worked for the US Park Service in Yellowstone National Park for another eight years before fully retiring to become a full-time husband and grandpa.
Byllie G. Nash, 70, of Corvallis passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015. A long time resident of West Yellowstone, Byllie enjoyed all that it had to offer, including snowmobiling in the winters and boating in the summers. She and her husband later in life moved to Corvallis to be closer to family.
Melton “Bub” Wyman Maxwell, 71, formerly of West Yellowstone, MT, passed away August 5, 2015, at his home in Belgrade, MT. He was born February 14, 1944, to Elton and Ellen (Hansen) Maxwell in Bozeman, MT. He graduated from Ennis High School and was a Vietnam Veteran for the United States Army.
Jesus C. Robles, 73, of West Yellowstone passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015.
Frances Anne Williams Nelson, 79, of Bluff, Utah and West Yellowstone, Montana, died July 4, 2015. Frances was born on October 12, 1935, in Santa Cruz, CA to Frank James and Mildred McLemore Williams. She graduated from Rayville High School, then Centenary College where she was a sharp shooter on the rifle team. She followed her heart to Yellowstone to work at Old Faithful Inn. As a police dispatcher in West Yellowstone, she was instrumental in saving lives during a gas leak. She helped build the First Baptist Church of West Yellowstone. She lived in various locales, but eventually found her way to Bluff, a hiker’s heaven. She was an explorer and an artist. Frances is survived by her children, Paul Scott Nelson, Craig Justin Nelson, Brett Anthony Nelson, and Kristy Ellen Nelson; her granddaughters, Katherine Nelson, Allison Nelson Winkler, Rebecca Nelson, and Camryn Frances Nelson; and her grandsons, Patrick Jorel Nelsonand Tristan San Juan. She is also survived by her brother, Jerrold Norman Williams. Private services were held in Colorado. Flowers may be sent to Rocky Mountain Care Facility-835 E Vine St.-Murray, UT 84107. She loved giving flowers, so leave instructions for flowers to be shared among the residents. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter to honor Frances’ love of animals.

Richard Alan Benton, 69, of Bozeman, formerly of St Croix, US Virgin Islands and West Yellowstone, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015.
Kurtis Lee Marsden, 55 of West Yellowstone, formally of Saint James died March 23, 2015 at the University of Utah Hospital. He was born on March 30, 1959 to Clinton & Hazel (Barge) Marsden in St. James, MN. He grew up and attended school in Saint James, Minn, graduating in 1977. After graduation he farmed in the St. James area. Kurt followed his dream and in 2002 when he moved with the love of his life, Michele Reed, to West Yellowstone, where they became the owners of Golden West Motel and vacation rentals. On April 27, 2005 he and Michele were married.
Sigrid Julia Barnes Underdal was born on November 22, 1915, in Pondera, Montana, to Norwegian immigrant parents, Berge and Anna Bortvedt. The second of five children, Sigrid grew up on the family farm and often rode to school with her brother on Rollo the horse. In 1932 she graduated as salutatorian from Valier High School. For the next four years she attended Concordia Lutheran College in Morehead, MN where she earned a BA in Chemistry.
Avid golfer and fly fisherman, Blaine Heaps, a long time resident of West Yellowstone, passed away January 24, 2015, in Yuma, AZ. Blaine was born in Murray, Utah to Reldon and Faye Heaps in 1937. He lived in Utah until he joined the Navy in 1944. After his discharge, he lived and worked in Salt Lake City until 1981. He sold his business in Salt Lake City to pursue his passion of fly fishing. He moved to Montana where he owned a motel/snowmobile rental business. He was a long time fishing guide for Bud Lilly’s Trout Shop. He sold the motel and retired in 2009. He spent his summers in Caldwell, ID, and winters in Yuma.

Author, poet and warrior Millicent Ashby Gentry, 27, passed away peacefully July 28, 2014 in Salt Lake City after losing a long, tough battle with cancer. She was with her parents and new husband at the time of her death.
Vern William Klostriech passed away July 16, 2014 in Rochester, New York due to a brain seizure. He was born Oct. 23, 1939 to Ed and Catherine Klostriech in Billings, Montana. He is survived by friend Julia Dzierzamowski from Batavia, New York; Brothers Duane (Judy) Klostriech of Cleveland, North Dakota, Edwin “Mike” (Dixie) Klostriech of West Yellowstone, Montana; Niece Kelly (Matthew) Burden of West Yellowstone; Nephews Dan (Jen), Glen (Tara) and Jeff Klostriech of Whapeton North Dakota; Dennia Klostriech of Harvey, North Dakota and Michael (Beverly) Klostriech of Mandan, North Dakota.
Ruth E. Haak, age 76, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, after a valiant battle with cancer at the home her daughter, Susan Peters in Shohola, PA. Ruth was born May 1, 1937 in Bethlehem, PA. She was a retired elementary school teacher with the Minisink Valley School District. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Haak, a retired Minisink Valley high school teacher. She has two children, Susan and husband Scott Peters, Morgan and wife Diane Haak, and three grandchildren, Kirsten, Eric and Samantha.
Joy West was born on January 10, 1944, to Reed and Belle Liljenquist of West Yellowstone, Montana, and Idaho Falls, Idaho. Joy was a fifth generation Montanan. She was the Great Grand- Daughter of early homesteaders in West Yellowstone, Montana. Joy lost her battle with cancer on June 14.
Harold C. Mayo was born in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, January 16, 1945, to Harold and Anna Mayo. He passed Jan. 28, 2014.
Herbert “Herb” Richard Alvin, 89, was born April 5, 1925, in Billings, Montana. Herb passed away on April 23, 2014, while doing one of his favorite things: fishing.
Marguerite Shomler, 106, of Bozeman, Montana, passed away April 25, 2014. She was born July 8, 1907, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Alex and Laura Stuart. The family moved shortly after to California.
Steven P. McFall, 64, of West Yellowstone passed away at his home on Thursday, April 10, 2014. Steve was born in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, on March 12, 1950.
William “Bill” Welch was born in Santa Rosa, California, on May 10, 1950. He attended Tomales High School and most recently resdied in Chandler, Arizona. He and his family previously lived in Sebastopol and Auburn, California, and West Yellowstone, Montana.
RENO, Nev. — Lillian M. Schikora Case, 80, died Nov. 16, 2013, in Reno, Nev., at Renown North Hospital of complications of lung cancer. Lillian was born Feb. 9, 1933. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Martha Schikora of Libby, Mont. Lillian has five surviving siblings who reside in Libby, Mont.: David Schikora; Joyce Volcore, of Helena, Mont.; Billy Schikora; Pauline Nixon; and Willis Schikora.
John Richard Leafty, 54, of West Yellowstone, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23, of apparent cardiac arrest. John was born on Sept. 28, 1959, in San Diego, Calif., the sixth child and third son of Eugene Furman and Lawana Rightenour Leafty. John’s local grandparents were James “Herk” Herklas and Vivian Wilde Rightenour. Herklas’ family was one of the early settlers of what is now the town of West Yellowstone.

Harry Tupper was born on Dec. 13, 1926 and passed away on Aug. 17, 2013. A memorial service for Harry, of Henry’s Lake, Idaho and La Crescenta, Calif., is scheduled for this Saturday, Sept. 7 at 4 p.m.
Craig Sveinson (58) of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, passed away peacefully in The Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, on June 5 around 10:35 a.m. He was born in Billings, Mont. on Nov 5, 1954, where he grew up and started his career as an electrician with his father at Sterling Electric Co.
A memorial service for Walter C. Eagle will be held Monday, July 22, at the West Yellowstone Community Protestant Church at 11 a.m.

Gary Allen Pumplin, 70, of West Yellowstone passed away in his apartment on June 6, 2013, of coronary artery disease. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11 at the Church of Christ, located at 400 N Electric St in West Yellowstone. The minister Blu Kropp will be officiating.
John M. Collins, age 71, of the Madison Valley passed away June 24, 2013 at the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital at Bozeman.

Joe Eagle was born on April 13, 1924 in Bozeman, Mont., the ninth of 10 children born to Sam and Ida Eagle. He passed away at age 89 on June 7, 2013 with his daughters by his side.
Audrey Phleger McElmury Levonas was born on January 24, 1943 in Amherst, Mass. to Fred B. Phleger and Marjorie Temple Phleger. She passed away on March 26, 2013 at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital due to complications arising from treatment for brain cancer.
Walter (Wally) Eagle, a life-long Montanan, was born in Long Beach, Calif. on February 26, 1927, the youngest of 10 children born to Sam and Ida Eagle. He passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on April 29, 2013 in Bozeman.
Shaun Ernest Doolan passed away March 23, 2013, at 31 years of age. Shaun was a very special being with a heart of gold, shared with a circle of truly blessed friends and family spread far and wide.
Caleb passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013. He was 26 years old.
Louise K. Dabner was born in Hardin, Mont. on August 5 – or August 6, depending on which courthouse clerk was available. Her actual birth date was August 5, 1937, a few minutes after her twin sister came into the world. Their parents were Ben and Nellie Feller of Hardin. Louise was the youngest of eight children, and learned early on how to protect herself from the rest of the crew. She and her twin were notorious for their antics. After working in the automotive parts industry and being a partner in a large auto parts store, she finally retired for a while.
Mary Patricia (Brosnan) Gospodarek, 81, died peacefully in her sleep February 25, 2013 in Middlebury, Vt. The eldest daughter of Mary Ellen (Doran) and William F. Brosnan, Mary was born May 12, 1931 in Elmira, N.Y.
