The WYPD reported the following activity last week.

AUGUST 8

-- Two pairs of binoculars were stolen from a locked case in a Canyon Street store. The serial numbers have been distributed to locations where the stolen items might turn up.

-- It was reported that a pair of puppies had been tied to a tree on Nez Perce Avenue, and were all tangled up. An officer untangled the animals and indicated he would speak to the owner the following day.

-- An abandoned Mazda pickup on town property was red-tagged. (The owner of a red-tagged vehicle has five days to contact the police about moving the vehicle. After five days the department can have it towed to an impound lot.)

-- A woman was taken by ambulance to Bozeman after a bicycling accident.

-- At approximately 5 p.m. a man was discovered on the ground in the shrubbery in front of a Yellowstone Avenue hotel. An officer determined that the man was intoxicated and took him to the police station. A family relative was called. The relative was a city judge in Butte. After speaking with him the man was arrested for disorderly conduct.

-- A customer pumped gas at a convenience store, but didn't have enough money to pay for it. So the clerk called the police.

-- A call was received from a babysitter in Idaho. Officers were asked to find a member of the audience at the Playmill Theater concerning an emergency at home. On second thought, the caller said, just put a note on her car.

-- Someone reported a motorboat grounded on a sandbar near Horse Butte.

AUGUST 9

-- At 5:57 a.m., a vehicle hit a gas pump at a convenience store. There was lots of damage to both.

-- A power out was reported in an area outside of town (Over the course of the week, and throughout the summer, many such power outs have been called in to the police department.)

-- The owner of a Yellowstone Avenue jewelry store informed police that an old Thunderbird had been parked in front of his business for several days.

-- There was a call from a man whose car had been scratched during the night. He was told that an officer would inspect the damage as soon as his present assignment in the city court was completed. The caller said he couldn't wait, and that he'd be leaving town.

-- Two men left their group at the Beaver Creek campground to get a six pack. At 9:45 the following morning they had not returned. They were driving a silver Saturn with Pennsylvania plates. The caller asked officers to find the men and tell them the group was still waiting for them.

-- A woman caller told the dispatcher that someone had thrown some tarps over trees behind the Madison Apartments, and underneath were a couch, cabinet and various other items. She thought it might be a case of illegal camping.

-- Police were informed that a 5-foot, 8-inch slender female with long blonde hair wrote a check to a Henrys Lake service station. When the owner refused to accept the check she allegedly threw it at him and left. She was driving a gray Nissan truck with Gallatin County plates.

-- A check book mistakenly left behind at the post office was reported stolen.

-- Another power outage was reported.

-- There was a gas drive-off from the Economart.

-- A citation was written to the owner of a vehicle parked on Canyon Street and blocking alley A. The vehicle was from Utah.

-- A 40 to 50-year-old male with long gray hair and a beard was reportedly yelling obscenities at passersby on Madison Avenue near the theater.

AUGUST 10

-- At 1:10 a.m. a bar tender asked the officer on duty to give a patron a ride home.

-- The driver of a vehicle called to explain that he had nearly hit a man who was lying down in the middle of Madison Avenue.

-- There was a bear in the Forest Service compound. Or possibly the Park Service compound. The caller said "Ranger Station."

-- An illegal camper was told to leave the Imax parking lot at 7:29 a.m.

-- Someone allegedly stole a purse from a McDonalds employee. It contained $700 and a passport.

-- Another power out was reported.

-- There was a one vehicle accident in front of a bar.

AUGUST 11

-- At 5:11 a.m. a woman called to notify police that a car parked on the street was blocking the Galavan bus.

-- Idaho authorities requested aid in their attempt to nab two juveniles in a red mustang. Town officers were asked to bring tire spikes with them (See further details in story on page one.)

-- There were rocks on Highway 287 near the Earthquake Center.

-- An investigation began regarding a possible burglary in a Madison Avenue residence.

-- A sheriffs deputy asked the dispatcher to call the owner of a rental cabin at Lazy Acres, and get his permission to search the building. (The door had earlier been forced open.) Later the second of the two Idaho fugitives was found sleeping in a nearby cabin.

AUGUST 12

-- Two motorcycles were parked in a handicap zone on Dunraven.

-- A local man asked for medical assistance because he believed his wife might have had a stroke.

-- A choking smell was said to be coming from the second floor of a Grizzly Park motel.

AUGUST 13

-- A visitor reported that her laptop and her digital phone were missing from a motel room. She later found them.

-- Someone noticed an injured hawk alongside Highway 20. Raptor specialist SueDonkersgood was given the information.

-- There was a call from a man who had recently had his car serviced in town. An envelope containing $480 was missing from the center console he said. When an officer called the man later he said that he'd found the money.

-- The accidental death of a vacationing fisherman occurred near Ghost Village on the Madison River. The deputy coroner went to the scene.

-- A caller notified police of a power out.

-- Someone made a complaint about a Gibbon Avenue dog on a long chain. The length of the chain allowed the animal to attack sidewalk pedestrians. An officer went to the home and found the chain, but not the dog. He indicated he would talk with the owner on the following day.

-- The driver of a cream colored jeep with Idaho plates was the subject of a complaint. His passengers allegedly were not wearing seat belts, he drove onto the Canyon Street sidewalk, into the mall, and then backed up and drove away.

-- A motor home was blocking traffic on Alley A.

-- Five male patrons left a bar at 11:15 p.m. and took a pitcher of beer and glasses with them. An officer found the group and told them to take the stuff back.

AUGUST 14

-- Saint Anthony, Idaho police stopped a vehicle and a juvenile female passenger told them she was a West Yellowstone run away. She was arrested.

-- At 1:22 a.m. a loud music complaint was received from a Grizzly Park motel guest. The noise was coming from the band at a museum dance. They were playing their last song.

-- An intoxicated motel guest was knocking on room doors.

-- A Canyon Street cafe owner reported more trouble. This time it concerned someone damaging his neon sign tubing and a double plated window.

-- Kids were allegedly throwing rocks at the back of a Dunraven Street building.

-- A domestic assault case was reported to be in progress at a North Geyser address.

-- A fight occurred in a Gibbon Avenue motel, and one participant was arrested.

-- A burn permit was activated at the address of the "Bates" Motel.

-- Bad checks were allegedly passed at a service station.

-- A woman involved in the previous evening's domestic disturbance called the police station.

-- Two red-tagged vehicles were taken to the town impound lot.
